I was five years old when I went to Primary School for the first time, instead of six like my classmates. It was because I was born late in the year, specifically in October. I was the youngest, smallest, shortest and the most scared of all.
I couldn't hang my jacket on the hanger because it was too high for me. I couldn't put the chair on the table after class because the chair was too big and the table too high. I couldn't write on the blackboard because no one could see what I wrote as I could only write on the bottom of the board. There were a lot of things I couldn't do because of my size.
Despite all these negative things, there was a delightful positive. The most beautiful, nicest and most friendly person in the whole world. She was my teacher or otherwise known to me as my hero in that period of my life because she always helped me.
Maybe, she wasn't the best teacher but she was my best teacher. Why might you ask, because she always conveyed love towards for her students and that's one of the main qualities required for any teacher. She always said: "I want to instill character and behaviours in children and not create robots" For this reason, we spent a lot of time talking about our problems and then she tried to help us.
She always told us fantastic things about the unit we were working on in class to complement it. That helped us to understand all the things which we had to learn even better.
Thanks to her I have decided to become a teacher, because I would like to use new methodologies for helping my students to learn and be inspired to learn more about many diverse things. Also, I would like to love my job in the same way that she did.
In my opinion, being a teacher means not being a person who just transmits academic knowledge. It is someone who can get into the hearts of the students and bring out the desire to learn not only academically but to learn life lessons. A teachers' job is to inspire the best in his/her students to be complete individuals, young people competent in their own skin and to build ethical and moral values.
